Depression is a common mental health disorder. Depression has many causes and effective treatments. In therapy, therapist and client work together to understand the underlying issues to the depression. Learning to identify one’s own negative thought patterns and then to challenge them is one path to feeling better. Other paths include talking about past experiences of trauma or utilizing EMDR to reprocess past trauma, acceptance of one’s sadness while still moving forward to action is an important part of Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI). These are just a few of the possible paths to recovery that client and therapist can explore.
