Life can feel like swimming in rough waters, never knowing when the next wave of difficulty will overwhelm you. It can feel as though navigating these challenges is impossible and you may be exhausted and feel depleted by the struggle. Finding calm waters to keep your head above water can require help. A compassionate and skilled therapist can help you navigate internal and external storms that are causing you to feel sad, depressed, anxious, and possibly hopeless. Whether you feel stuck in the past from trauma or have no sense of what direction to take to feel better, getting help is a powerful first step.
In therapy, together, we will look at your past and present. We will identify your strengths and uncover new perspectives that can reframe how you think about relationships, your work, and most importantly about yourself. I like to use compassion focused therapies that such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Narrative Therapy. With certain clients can explore how past trauma affects your mental health now and reprocess traumatic memories using EMDR. We can build effective coping skills, and you can learn how to harness your nervous system to feel grounded and safe in stressful situations.
I have experience working with clients who are experiencing a wide spectrum of mental health issues; trauma, bipolar disorder, grief and sadness, life transitions, coping with a medical diagnosis, and chronic pain. I am licensed in the state of Washington and am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA), and the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS).
